The Oscars had a major controversy. In the week following the awards show, the world debated Will Smith’s onstage antics. The rest of the show, however, went without too many problems. The Grammy Awards may not have had a major, unexpected moment, but it did stir up a lot of controversy. Four different nominees are tainted with some form of controversy, some worse than others.

Marilyn Manson is a contestant who has been accused of several types of misconduct

Marilyn Manson is one of many controversial Grammy nominees. Nominated for Album of the Year, along with a host of others, for his work on donda, Manson is no stranger to controversy or the Grammys. The Recording Academy has nominated Manson five times since 1999.

In February 2021, Evan Rachel Wood took to Instagram to name Manson as her attacker. Wood had been in a relationship with Manson for several years. She was only 18 when they started dating; he was 36 years old. Wood said Manson brainwashed her and manipulated her into submission.

Wood wasn’t the first person to accuse Manson of misconduct, and she wasn’t the last. In 2001, a security guard accused Manson of sexual misconduct. In 2002, he was sued for the wrongful death of Jennifer Syme. A 2011 police report also accused Manson of sexual misconduct. Several people have come forward to tell stories of inappropriate behavior and disturbing conversations they had with Manson.

The Recording Academy banned Kanye West from performing at the Grammys

Kanye West should have had a big night at the Grammys this year. Nominated in seven different categories, West was also set to perform. Ahead of the ceremony, West went on several rants on social media. He was accused of threatening behavior and harassment towards his ex, Kim Kardashian, and her partner, Pete Davidson.

In March, Instagram suspended West for 24 hours. The social media platform suspended her account after a series of posts were deemed to include hate speech, harassment and bullying. The Recording Academy banned West from performing at the 64th Grammy Awards. He chose not to attend the ceremony. According to Harper’s Bazaar, West is stepping back from the spotlight to focus on his health.

Despite his absence, Kanye won two trophies. It did not, however, win honors for album of the year.

Louis CK won a Grammy after being ‘cancelled’ for sexual misconduct

Louis CK won a Grammy Award for his comedy album, Sincerely, Louis CK. The album is the comedian’s first album since a series of sexual abuse allegations. According to reports, Louis CK masturbated in front of several women without their consent. Some of the same women have accused the comedian of derailing their careers to shut them up. Louis CK confirmed that the allegations were true.

Comedy fans, activists and industry insiders met with angry victory. This is his second victory. Louis CK has already won a Grammy for Live in Madison Square Garden.

Dave Chappelle’s nomination was also the subject of controversy

Dave Chappelle already has three Grammy Awards for his comedic work. This year, the Recording Academy nominated it in the Best Spoken Word Album category. His work, 8:46, focused on violence against the black community. Besides the Grammys, the Television Academy nominated the special for two Emmys.

The Recording Academy named Chapelle after he was called out for transphobic comments. Chappelle refused to back down or apologize for his comment, prompting further criticism. According to the Washington Post, Chappelle insisted he would not comply with anyone’s demands.
