Local and State Leaders Condemn Antisemitic Behavior of Protesters in Orange County
Local and state leaders are speaking out to condemn anti-Semitic slurs that the Orange County Sheriff’s Office says took place during a protest Saturday at Alafaya Trail and Waterford Lakes Parkway.
Deputies said about 20 protesters gathered on public property shouting profanity and anti-Semitic slurs at passing vehicles as a fight broke out between someone and several protesters.
No arrests were made, but local and state leaders did not like the protesters’ behavior.
Here are the comments from the leaders.
Buddy Dyer, Mayor of Orlando
“Anti-Semitism and hatred are not welcome in this community. Despite the hateful protests in Central Florida this weekend, our collective commitment to building an inclusive and compassionate community for all is stronger than ever.
Christina Pushaw, press secretary to Governor Ron DeSantis
“Governor. Ron DeSantis has ALWAYS condemned anti-Semitic attacks and hatred, and he always will. To suggest otherwise is simply wrong. I am confident that Florida law enforcement will respond appropriately and justice will be served. to any protester who breaks the law.
John Mina, Sheriff of Orange County
“I am aware of the anti-Semitic outbreak in Orange County. Along with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, I deplore any type of hate speech. This hatred has no place in our society. Any reports of criminal activity will be thoroughly investigated.
U.S. Representative Val Demings
“Yesterday the neo-Nazis gathered in Orlando. But America has beaten their disturbing ideology before and we will again. As a police commander, I saw similar gatherings, and I also saw that for every Nazi there were a hundred Floridians there to stand up for what is right.
State Representative Anna Eskamani
“I knew early on that the Nazis were the bad guys – and seeing Nazi scum come out publicly and try to organize in Central Florida is absolutely disgusting. They even misspelled “Let’s Go Brandon” on their banner, which I would expect from some stupid Nazis. Every politician in the state of Florida should condemn this behavior and push back against the policies that fuel this dangerous ideology. Nazism is against every value we hold as Americans, and we must be united against anti-Semitism, homophobia, racism, and ableism. I also ask anyone who agrees to donate to the Holocaust Memorial Resource & Education Center of Florida so that we never forget the atrocities of Nazism and Fascism.
