How Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union are protecting Zaya’s sanity

In an October 7 interview on Todaythe retired NBA star opened up about the decision he and his wife Gabrielle Union made to limit comments about his daughter Zaya WadeInstagram account for his sanity.
Explaining that he and Gabrielle had already seen “all the negativity that comes with social media and comments” that his son Zaire Wade20, had received as a teenager, Dwyane shared that they didn’t want the same for 15-year-old Zaya, who came out as transgender in 2020.
“You know, Zaire’s conversation was about sports,” the athlete noted of the online comments kids are receiving, “Zaya talks about what a lot of people don’t even really understand and don’t understand.”
So Dwyane, 40, and Gabrielle, 49, made sure to have a chat with Zaya about being on social media.
“We want to make sure that if she’s going to be on social media — she’s going to show people her life — it’s going to be the people she wants who are going to be in her circle,” the sports commentator said. “Everyone outside, that noise outside really doesn’t matter. What matters are the voices you allow into your circle. And so those are the people we wanted to follow his travel and follow his life.”
